David G. Rickerby heads the Technology Licensing practice area at Choate. Mr. Rickerby focuses on providing practical advice for complex legal problems. He has particular areas of focus in intellectual property counseling, emerging companies, university licensing, distribution channel strategy and open source law.

As a core part of his practice, Mr. Rickerby works with companies of all stages to develop, prepare and implement comprehensive intellectual property licensing strategies and programs. Mr. Rickerby frequently advises companies on, and assists in the negotiation of critical strategic business agreements. Mr. Rickerby also provides counsel and advice regarding the intellectual property aspects of mergers and acquisitions as well as venture capital and private equity investments, with a particular focus on intellectual property due diligence and open source compliance issues.

Mr. Rickerby has worked in the technology licensing area for more than a decade. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Rickerby was an associate in the Patent and Intellectual Property Group at Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault, an associate in the Corporate and Venture Capital and Emerging Companies Group at Edwards & Angell, a Contracts Manager in the Technology Management Group at Computer Sciences Corporation, and the Legal Manager for PSI International, Inc.

Mr. Rickerby was identified as a Massachusetts SuperLawyer’s Rising Star in 2005 and 2006. He was also selected as one of 15 “Up and Comers” by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly in 2006.
